Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of linear motors with iron cores and linear motors without iron cores

Iron core linear motor:

The iron core linear motor wraps the coil around a silicon steel plate and maximizes the generated force through a single-sided magnetic circuit. This type of motor adopts a special electromagnetic design, which can provide maximum rated thrust. The motor constant Km is high, ensuring low heat loss and small cogging force. This type of motor has high thrust and is an ideal choice for transmitting heavy objects, which can maintain rigidity during machining and processing.

Ironless linear motor:

Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of linear motors with iron cores and linear motors without iron cores

Ironless linear motors do not have iron cores or slots for coil winding. Therefore, this type of motor has zero cogging effect, is lightweight, and has no attraction between the coil assembly and the magnetic circuit. These characteristics are very suitable for applications that require very low bearing friction, high acceleration for lighter loads, and can still ensure the highest constant speed under ultra-low speed conditions. The modular design of the magnetic circuit consists of two rows of magnets, which can maximize the generated thrust and provide a magnetic flux loop for the magnetic circuit.

Ironless linear motor

Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of linear motors with iron cores and linear motors without iron cores

Advantages: 1. No attractiveness 2. No tooth slot benefits 3. Low weight rotor 4. Fixed air gap, easy alignment and installation Disadvantages: 1. The full load power of the motor is relatively low 2. Compared with iron cores, it requires twice the amount of magnets, resulting in higher costs. Advantages of iron core linear motors: 1. High thrust density. 2. Low design cost of iron core with single row magnets. 3. Good heat dissipation. Disadvantages: 1. High attractive force, which can reach 5-13 times the rated thrust of the motor. The bearing system of the motor must be able to support this attractive force, making the installation of the motor more challenging. 2. The cogging effect limits the smoothness of movement and generates speed fluctuations. Ironless linear motors are more suitable for high-speed light load equipment with high reset positioning, while iron core linear motors are more suitable for high-speed heavy load equipment with low requirements for repeat positioning accuracy.
